The Faculty of Social Sciences of Cuenca will inaugurate a new coworking space and Room 126 of the Tourism Museum on May 18. As a continuation of the Faculty’s collaboration with the Tourism Museum—which previously included the exhibition “Destination Spain: A Journey Through Spanish Tourism Promotion,” open to visitors from March to May 2025—a new display case focusing on tourism in the province of Cuenca and its history will be inaugurated.
The coworking space being opened at the Faculty is conceived as a collaborative area for students. It will feature 22 workstations and four differentiated areas where students can meet and work in groups, fostering new social, activity-based, and knowledge-generating synergies. Among the elements that can be found in this space, and which students will be able to enjoy, is one of the tourism promotion posters that formed part of the aforementioned exhibition and was donated to the Faculty by the Tourism Museum. In addition, as part of the celebration of International Museum Day on May 18, Room 126 of the Tourism Museum will be inaugurated. This room is located in the lobby on the ground floor of the Gil de Albornoz Building, which houses the Faculty of Social Sciences of Cuenca. The Tourism Museum is a participatory and global museum with rooms distributed across different continents. Under the coordination of Alberto Bosque Coello, tourism promoter, the museum aims to highlight the history of tourism, as well as the people, companies, and destinations that contributed to the development of the tourism industry. Our Faculty, with its Degree in Tourism, the Double Degree in Business Administration and Tourism, and the Master’s Degree in Tourism Business Management, and therefore as a training ground for future professionals in the sector, is the ideal location for the installation of Room 126. The exhibition has been developed around four major thematic areas: historical-artistic heritage; natural heritage; the tourism industry; and the Faculty of Social Sciences of Cuenca of the UCLM.
This is the first room of its kind located in our region and, continuing with this collaborative approach, Ricardo Martínez Cañas, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Alberto González González, Professor of Contemporary History at the Faculty and curator of Room 126, encourage the university community, institutions, and society at large to contribute to its growth by donating pieces that may become part of its exhibition.
